Former CIA Director John Brennan said he told a Russian intelligence official in 2016 that all Americans would be outraged by Russia’s efforts to interfere in that year’s U.S. presidential campaign. Brennan said he now realizes he was wrong.
“I said this is going to outrage all Americans,” Brennan said, recounting the conversation with the head of Russia’s FSB intelligence service in remarks Wednesday at an FBI cybersecurity conference in New York. “Clearly there are some Americans who say, ‘Let’s not worry about that,’ which is very, very unfortunate.”
