Bitcoin Futures Trigger Circuit Breakers After 25% Gain

Cryptocurrency's futures have wild ride in futures trading debut

Bitcoin futures surged as much as 25 percent during their debut session on Cboe Global Markets Inc.’s exchange, triggering two brief trading halts meant to cool volatility. A third circuit breaker will kick in if the gain extends to 30 percent, Cboe said. While bitcoin is a notoriously volatile cryptocurrency, some hope the introduction of futures and options will eventually help tame swings by improving liquidity and making it easier to bet on declines.
