The Saudi government is seeking to negotiate financial settlements with detainees that would enable some of those held in a purported anti-corruption crackdown to be freed, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

The deal would involve the payment of money or transfer of assets to the state in return for dropping charges, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the matter is private.
