The U.K. is dreaming if it expects to have far better access to European Union markets after Brexit than Canada does, according to the man who quit Theresa May’s negotiating team over her strategy.
Ivan Rogers, Britain’s former envoy to the EU, said many European officials expect the U.K. would end up with a relationship akin to Canada’s free-trade pact after Britain leaves in March 2019 -- but it wouldn’t get anything more generous than that. Prime Minister May has said the Canada deal, which is considered the closest the EU has ever struck, isn’t ambitious enough for the U.K.
