Finnish President and His Wife Are Expecting Their First Child

Finish President Sauli Niinisto and his wife, Jenni Haukio, take part in a ceremony to welcome Japan’s prime minister and his wife in Helsinki on July 10, 2017.

Finnish President Sauli Niinisto, 69, and his wife Jenni Haukio, 40, are expecting a child in February.

“We have waited and hoped for a child for several years,” Niinisto and Haukio said in an emailed statement. “We have encountered many obstacles during these years.”

Niinisto and Haukio wed in 2009. The baby is Haukio’s first, while Niinisto has two boys with his first wife Marja-Leena, who died in a car accident in 1995.
