Supreme Court Backs Gay Couples on Birth Certificates, With Gorsuch Dissenting

A divided U.S. Supreme Court reaffirmed its support for gay marriage, saying Arkansas was violating the Constitution by making it harder for the female spouses of new mothers to get their name on birth certificates than male spouses.

Justices Neil Gorsuch, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito dissented. Gorsuch wrote that the court went too far by overturning a lower court ruling favoring the state without hearing arguments.
