Pedro Sanchez won back the leadership of the Spanish Socialist party after promising to mount tougher opposition to the country’s minority government led by Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.
Sanchez was supported by more than 50 percent of party members who took part in the vote against close to 40 percent for the establishment favorite Susana Diaz, the party said on its website. The result was a vindication for Sanchez, who was ousted by party grandees last year against the wishes of the rank-and-file membership.
