Get Ready for French Stock Drops April 24, Gains May 8: Chart

The CAC 40 Index dropped the day after the first round of every French presidential election since 1988 and rose following each second round. The Stoxx Europe 600 Index mostly fell after both ballots. Between the votes, the CAC 40 rebounded each time except in 2002, when incumbent President Jacques Chirac was going to face Jean-Marie Le Pen -- Marine’s father -- in the second round.
