Snowstorm Has Northeast Importing Most Gas in Two Years

New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio are importing the most natural gas from Canada in almost two years as forecasts show a winter storm may dump more than a foot of snow on some areas. Net imports of the fuel to heat homes and businesses and to supply power plants surged to about 700 million cubic feet Thursday, the most since March 2015. “On a cold day, the region is a big demand center,” Tai Liu, an analyst with Bloomberg New Energy Finance in New York, said by phone.
