VVIX and VIX Go Opposite Ways for a Second Straight Week: Chart

The CBOE VVIX Index, which tracks expected swings in the CBOE Volatility Index, is heading for a weekly decline, even as the VIX climbed 14 percent through Thursday. The gauges are diverging for a second week in a row, the first time that’s happened since July. That’s bringing the relationship between the two back to its six-month average, after the VVIX reached a five-month high relative to the VIX on Jan. 13.
