Germany Is Receiving the Bulk of the EU’s Asylum Seekers: Chart

Some 187,000 first-time asylum applications were filed in Germany in the second quarter. That’s more than 60 percent of all requests in European Union member states. The numbers, a 7 percent increase from the previous quarter, help explain why Chancellor Angela Merkel is facing mounting criticism on her stance on immigration.
