Former French Economy Minister Arnaud Montebourg is set to announce his candidacy in the 2017 presidential elections on Sunday, Agence France-Presse reports, citing Socialist deputy Laurent Baumel.

President Francois Hollande fired Montebourg in August 2014 after he criticized the government’s economic program for being too based on austerity. As Economy Minister, Montebourg threatened to block General Electric’s takeover of Alstom.
