Richebourg 1978 Jayer Burgundy Leads Sotheby’s Wine Auction

Two 12-bottle cases of Richebourg 1978 Burgundy made by Henri Jayer fetched an auction record of 211,500 pounds ($303,800) each at a Sotheby’s sale in London May 11, with wines from the 1976 and 1972 vintages also among the top 10 lots.

Twelve bottles of Richebourg 1976 Jayer sold for 108,100 pounds while 11 bottles of Echezeaux 1976 Jayer drew 58,750 pounds, according to an e-mailed statement from the auction house. Eleven bottles of Romanee Conti 1972 Domaine de la Romanee Conti sold for 49,350 pounds.
