SMBC Nikko Securities Inc., a brokerage unit of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Inc., said it is creating two research positions to expand coverage of markets abroad as the Bank of Japan’s minus interest-rate policy boosts the allure of overseas assets.

Starting this month, Yoshimasa Maruyama will become the chief market economist, covering Japan and other countries, the company said in a statement. Makoto Noji will be a currency and foreign bond strategist after previously working as the senior interest-rate strategist.
