T-Mobile US Inc.’s offer of free data for online video from Netflix Inc., HBO, Hulu and other companies is “highly innovative and highly competitive,” the head of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission said.
Chairman Tom Wheeler, speaking at a news conference in Washington on Thursday, said the agency would be “keeping an eye on” the wireless carrier’s Binge On feature announced Nov. 10. The agency’s net neutrality rule adopted in February was intended to encourage competition and innovation, and “clearly this meets both of those criteria,” Wheeler said. “It’s highly innovative and highly competitive.”
