‘Pan’ Lacks Box-Office Magic in Weak Debut for Retelling

“Pan,” Warner Bros.’ new $150 million spin on the classic fairy tale, opened in third place in North American theaters, a disappointing debut for a film based on the well-known children’s character.
The live-action movie, featuring Hugh Jackman as the pirate Blackbeard and Levi Miller as Peter Pan, posted disappointing weekend ticket sales of $15.5 million, researcher Rentrak Corp. said Sunday in an e-mailed statement. “The Martian,” starring Matt Damon, led the box office with $37 million in its second weekend.
