Estonian police briefly detained the head of the Baltic country’s main opposition party with links to Russian President Vladimir Putin on suspicion that he took bribes.

Edgar Savisaar, 65, mayor of the capital Tallinn and chairman of Estonia’s Center Party, is suspected of taking multiple bribes this year and last totaling a “few hundred thousand euros,” the state prosecutor’s office said on Tuesday. Six other Estonian citizens, including four businessmen accused of giving bribes, have also been presented with allegations, Prosecutor General Lavly Perling told reporters at a news conference.
