A suspected gunman who launched an early-morning attack on Dallas police headquarters has been shot dead, the Associated Press reports.

Police spokesman Maj. Max Geron confirmed the death on Twitter.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown told a press conference earlier that a police sniper had shot the man following a tense standoff with police. He said no officers were injured.
