Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is updating its dress code to let store workers wear denim, seeking to appease employees who’ve complained about the required wardrobe.

Beginning July 1, U.S. store employees will be able to wear black- or khaki-colored denim pants, which previously were prohibited, said Kory Lundberg, a spokesman. Employees who have more “physical” jobs -- such as cart pushers or garden center workers -- will be allowed to wear blue jeans and T-shirts, Lundberg said. All workers will wear blue Wal-Mart vests and name tags, he said.
