Exxon Mobil Corp. Chief Executive Officer Rex Tillerson isn’t buying into Elon Musk’s vision that batteries will replace gasoline-powered engines anytime soon.

“While a lot of improvements have been made, the fundamental challenges of how you do have a battery with performance that the consumer will require has not been,” overcome, Tillerson said in a speech at the IHS CERAWeek conference in Houston Tuesday. “We look at the science and we think it’s a very, very daunting challenge.”
