California’s water cost index rose 36.7 percent from 2009 to 2014 at a time when inflation increased 8.7 percent, Waterfund LLC said, citing water data from municipalities.

The water index that measures the total cost of delivering fresh water to the customer in comparison rose 19.8 percent in Texas over the same period, Waterfund said Tuesday in a statement adding the two states to its water-cost index network.
