China’s Investors Open Record Trading Accounts Amid Stock Rally

Chinese investors opened stock accounts at the fastest pace on record last week, signaling the Shanghai benchmark index’s world-beating rally is attracting new participants.
Mainland traders opened 1.67 million accounts in the week ended Mar. 27, rising from 1.14 million a week earlier, which was also an all-time high, according to data from China Securities Depository and Clearing Co.’s website. The Shanghai Composite Index fell 1 percent at the close on Tuesday, erasing an earlier advance of 1.3 percent.
