Turkish Airlines said it wants to almost double its fleet in less than a decade and add the largest aircraft from Airbus Group NV and Boeing Co. as part of its push to build Istanbul into a global hub to rival Gulf carriers.
The airline will have 450 jets by 2023, compared with 263 planes now and about 300 by the end of the year, Chairman Hamdi Topcu said today as the airline announced earnings. Among planes the carrier is considering is Boeing’s 747-8 jumbo and the Airbus A380, though Turkish Air wouldn’t add the double-decker anytime this year, he said.
