Zhelyu Zhelev, Bulgarian Post-Communist Leader, Dies at 79

Zhelyu Zhelev, the first president elected to lead Bulgaria after the fall of communism in 1989, has died. He was 79.
Zhelev died today at his home in the capital, Sofia, his secretary, Iliana Ochkova, said by telephone. She gave no cause of death.
