China’s first circuit court, intended to reduce the interference of local officials in the judiciary, will start work in Shenzhen in the southern province of Guangdong on Monday.

The Shenzhen court will hear “major” administrative cases and “influential” civil and commercial cases, including those related to Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, Supreme Court spokesman Sun Jungong said today. It will also hear appeals of criminal cases. The court is responsible for the provinces of Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan.
