Parties Clash Over Republicans’ Internet Plan as FCC Vote Nears

U.S. lawmakers clashed over a Republican proposal for an open-Internet law, with Democrats calling it a bid to stop regulators from imposing rules on Internet service providers led by AT&T Inc. and Comcast Corp.

Wireless and cable trade groups in testimony submitted for a hearing before a House subcommittee Wednesday in Washington welcomed the Republican proposal as an alternative to strong regulation backed by President Barack Obama.
