Natural gas futures in New York climbed for the first time in four days as meteorologists predicted the return of bitter cold after mild weather this week.

Temperatures may be mostly below normal in the eastern two-thirds of the U.S. from Jan. 31 through Feb. 4, according to WSI Corp. in Andover, Massachusetts. The low in Chicago on Feb. 1 may be 14 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 10 Celsius), 5 less than average, data from AccuWeather Inc. show. Prices slid 9.5 percent Tuesday, the biggest decline since Feb. 24, on earlier forecasts for seasonal or higher readings.
