Pentagon to Put F-35s in U.K. as U.S. Sheds Bases in Europe

The U.S. Defense Department plans to base two squadrons of F-35 fighter jets in the U.K. as part of a military consolidation in Europe that will close 15 American bases and return them to host nations.
The plan calls for permanently basing the F-35s, made by Lockheed Martin Corp., at Royal Air Force Lakenheath in the U.K. starting in 2020.
