“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” held the top spot in U.S. cinemas for the third straight weekend, outdrawing Relativity Media LLC’s new horror release, “The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death.”
The third and last installment of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” posted sales of $21.7 million in the U.S. and Canada for Warner Bros.’ New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc., Rentrak Corp. said yesterday in a statement. Walt Disney Co.’s “Into the Woods” took in $18.7 million, while Universal Pictures’ “Unbroken” collected $18.2 million. “Angel of Death” generated sales of $15 million.
