A bus carrying retirees plunged off a highway near Frankfurt, killing four people and injuring 40 after an overtaking car lost control and crashed into the vehicle.

The bus, traveling from Baden-Wuerttemberg, broke through a roadside barrier about 100 kilometers (60 miles) northeast of Frankfurt, tumbling down a steep slope and overturning. The vehicle came to a stop about 50 meters (160 feet) off Autobahn 4, police said.
