Sony Pictures “The Interview” began online showings today on websites including YouTube, helping the comedy reach a wider audience after terrorism threats led major theaters to abandon the film’s Christmas Day opening.
The showings, which started at 1 p.m. New York time, add to screenings at more than 300 locations run by independent cinemas beginning tomorrow. The film, a farce about a plot to kill North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, also will be on Google Play, Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox Video and a website operated by Sony. It costs $5.99 to rent and $14.99 to own, Sony said.
