Alstom SA shareholders approved the sale of the French trainmaker’s energy units for an equity value of 12.4 billion euros ($15.1 billion) to General Electric Co., clearing a hurdle to the U.S. company’s largest purchase.

Some 99.8 percent of the Alstom shareholders approved the transaction at a meeting in Paris today. Two-thirds of the votes were needed for the transaction, which requires approval from antitrust authorities, to go ahead.
