‘Righteous’ North Korean Supporters May Be Sony Attackers

Updated on

North Korean supporters may have attacked the computer systems of Sony Pictures Entertainment in “righteous” anger over the upcoming release of a comedy about a plot to assassinate Kim Jong Un, state-run Korea Central News Agency said yesterday, citing an unnamed defense spokesman.

Hackers have paralyzed the computers of Sony Corp.’s U.S. film and television arm for almost two weeks, disseminating thousands of confidential documents including Social Security numbers of employees and celebrities. Cybersecurity expert Kevin Mandia called the attack unprecedented and the malware used undetectable.
