Dollar Tree Inc. and Dollar General Corp. today criticized each others’ plans to take over Family Dollar Stores Inc. while saying that their own bids are making progress toward winning regulatory approval.
Dollar Tree said in a statement that the U.S. Federal Trade Commission has indicated it would need to divest no more than 500 stores for its offer to win approval. Chesapeake, Virginia-based Dollar Tree added that Dollar General may need to sell more than the 1,500 stores it has committed to divesting for its bid to get regulators’ permission.
