Billionaire J. Christopher Burch stood at the entrance to the Art Basel Miami Beach fair as hordes of collectors swarmed the booths. He said he wanted to buy art to eventually give to his six children.
What kind of works was he looking for? “Anything below $1,000,” joked the owner of investment firm Burch Creative Capital. He would have been hard pressed to find that price yesterday at the VIP opening of the fair, where 267 galleries from 31 countries brought about $3 billion worth of art to sell.
