Homicides in New York have fallen 6.8 percent this year through November, on pace for a record low, city officials said.

Speaking at a press briefing in Brooklyn, Mayor Bill de Blasio said total crime is down 4.4 percent in the same period. Through Nov. 30, police reported 290 homicides, compared with 311 in the same period of 2013. If that pace continues, the number of murders will be the lowest ever, said Stephen Davis, a police spokesman.
