IMF: Canada Banks Should Take Bigger Mortgage-Risk Share

Canadian banks should take on a bigger share of the risks from residential mortgages and rely less on the federal government, the IMF said.

The government could consider steps including scaling back the scope of mortgage insurance and lowering amortization limits on uninsured mortgages, the International Monetary Fund said in a statement, which followed its annual staff mission to Canada.
