Puppy Surprise, a ’90s hit, has been resurrected for today’s kids

Puppy Surprise, a $25 plush pet with cotton candy-like fur, has a secret. The stuffed critters, first introduced by Hasbro in 1991, come with either three, four, or five puppies tucked in their Velcro-sealed tummies. Buyers don’t know how many they’ll get. Retailers have also been surprised by the demand for the nostalgic hit since its reintroduction in August. Puppy Surprise’s new parent, Just Play, halted its TV advertising for six weeks this fall as it scrambled to get more of them on shelves.
