Hartzer to Become Westpac CEO in February as Kelly Exits

Updated on

Westpac Banking Corp. named Brian Hartzer chief executive officer to replace Gail Kelly, who is exiting after seven years at the helm of Australia’s second-biggest lender.

Hartzer, 47, will take over Feb. 2 after joining the Sydney-based lender in June 2012 from Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc to run its Australian business, Westpac said in a statement today. Kelly, 58, who in February 2008 became the first female CEO of a major Australian bank, has overseen a more than doubling of profits at the bank. She didn’t reveal her future plans in today’s statement.
