Sabesp started withdrawing water from the second reserve of Cantareira as Brazil’s worst drought in eight decades dries up its biggest reservoir, threatening drinking supplies in South America’s largest metropolis.

Cia. de Saneamento Basico do Estado de Sao Paulo, as Latin America’s biggest publicly traded water utility is formally known, started to withdraw “a small” part of the supplies, Sabesp superintendent Marcello Xavier Veiga said today in an interview at a parliamentary commission hearing in Sao Paulo.
