The returning film “Ouija” held off Jake Gyllenhaal’s creepy new thriller “Nightcrawler” to remain No. 1 at the U.S. box office over a weekend slowed by Friday night’s Halloween festivities.

“Ouija,” a Universal Pictures horror film in its second week, generated $10.7 million, Rentrak Corp. said today in an e-mailed statement. “Nightcrawler,”a tale of crime news in Los Angeles, collected $10.4 million in U.S and Canadian ticket sales in its debut. Early results had the movies tied.
