Employees at the U.S. agency that oversees the swaps markets, disgruntled over their pay and benefits, voted overwhelmingly to join a labor union.

In an election at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission that ended yesterday, 87 percent of the workers who voted agreed to sign up with the National Treasury Employees Union. The union said it will represent about 370 CFTC employees -- or more than half of the regulator’s staff -- in Washington, Chicago and Kansas City, Missouri.
