Russia is taking the European Union to court over sanctions imposed on some of its largest companies, including its biggest bank and oil producer.

OAO Sberbank, VTB Group and development lender Vnesheconombank all filed claims with the General Court of the Court of Justice, the highest court in the EU system, according to separate e-mailed statements received today. The state-controlled lenders said they will ask the court to lift punitive economic measures imposed over the conflict in Ukraine.
