Sweden’s new minority government faces challenges in pushing through its new budget of tax increases and spending as it seeks to create more jobs and protect the Nordic country’s welfare model.

The new Social Democratic-led government today unveiled its budget for next year, pledging to raise taxes to pay for 25 billion kronor ($3.4 billion) in added spending. The government will raise levies to fund spending on public jobs, gender equality, infrastructure and reduced climate impact. It also plans to raise unemployment benefits.
