Botswana President Ian Khama and his ruling party are facing the stiffest challenge to their grip on power in the world’s biggest diamond producer.
The Umbrella for Democratic Change is presenting a united opposition to Khama’s Botswana Democratic Party and its almost 50-year hold on power in the southern African nation of about 2 million people. Voting for the presidency and 57 parliamentary seats started today at 7 a.m. and ended at 7 p.m.
