U.S. Probes How Rescue Engine Smashed Into Stalled Train

U.S. investigators are examining how a locomotive sent to pull a stalled excursion train in Arkansas collided with it head-on in clear weather yesterday, injuring more than 40 people.
“We’re looking at operations, mechanical -- the train equipment and brakes -- as well as human performance,” said Mark Rosekind, a member of the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board. The NTSB will also review the performance of emergency response teams and speak with injured riders, Rosekind said by telephone from the crash scene near the town of Winslow.
