Yemen Shiite Houthi Rebels Seize Border Post Near Saudi Arabia

Yemen’s Shiite Houthi rebels seized a border crossing point near Saudi Arabia, expanding their control in the impoverished Arabian Peninsula country.

The rebels took control of the Harad checkpoint and gunmen patrolled areas in the northern province of Hajah near the border, Eissa Mohamed, a witness, said by telephone. The checkpoint is adjacent to the Saudi province of Jazan, where the kingdom’s troops got pulled into a conflict in 2009 when the rebels killed a Saudi soldier during a cross-border incursion.
