Brazil’s obsession with soccer was evident during its parliamentary elections as two former World Cup winners swept into office two days ago.
Romario and Bebeto were Brazil’s strikers when the national team won its fourth World Cup title in the U.S. in 1994. Romario won election to the country’s upper chamber with 4.7 million votes two days ago, outpolling his nearest challenger by more than 3 million votes. Bebeto won a seat in Rio de Janeiro’s state parliament.
