Natural gas futures rose in New York for the first time in four days on signs that stockpiles at the beginning of the heating season will be below levels at the start of last winter, when frigid weather sent inventories to an 11-year low.
U.S. gas supplies totaled 3.1 trillion cubic feet in the week ended Sept. 26, down 11 percent from a year earlier, the Energy Information Administration said yesterday. Supplies may reach 3.477 trillion by the end of October, the lowest for the time of year since 2008, EIA data show.
