Rebel fighters in Ukraine concentrated their firepower on the airport in Donetsk, hindering efforts of an international commission to fully start its work to set up borders for a buffer zone between the battling sides.
Twelve rebels were killed during repeated attempts to storm the airport, Ukrainian military spokesman Andreiy Lysenko told reporters in Kiev today. Two Ukrainian soldiers were killed in the last 24 hours, he said without saying where. He denied local reports that separatists used gas in attacking the airfield. The situation in eastern Ukraine is “complicated” as rebels “continue to break” the truce, he said.
